Dental Implant
Dental implants are artificial tooth roots that are placed into the jawbone to provide a stable foundation for a fixed or removable prosthetic tooth. They are made of different diameters and lengths of titanium alloys and zirconium. The types of dental implants are:
Ceramic Implants (Natural Implants)
Ceramic implants are dental implants that do not contain any metal. Ceramic implants are not associated with any allergic reactions, and they do not cause any sensitivity to temperature. Because they are tooth-coloured, ceramic implants have an aesthetic advantage.
Titanium Implants
Titanium implants are made of titanium or its alloys. Titanium implants are biocompatible and highly durable. They are easy to adapt to the mouth and are not affected by the fluids in the mouth.
Mini Implants
Mini implants have similar characteristics to titanium implants, with the only difference being their smaller size.
Is dental implant surgery difficult?
Dental implant surgery is a painless and easy procedure that can be performed under local or general anaesthesia. With advancements in implant design and technology, implant surgeries have become much easier.
Why do implant prices differ?
Implant brands can have different prices depending on their experience, quality, and available options.
How is the number of implants determined for missing teeth?
The number of implants to be placed is determined according to the number of missing teeth, the area where the teeth are missing, and the planned prosthesis. Depending on the results of a careful clinical and radiological examination, implants can be placed in the determined areas, and in some cases, one implant may be placed for each missing tooth. It is essential to use enough implants to create a healthy and usable prosthesis. In cases where all teeth are missing, 6-8 implants can be placed in one jaw, and a fixed prosthesis can be made on top.
How does the implant treatment process continue?
Before implant placement, a detailed clinical and radiological examination is performed. Bone structure and anatomical neighbours are carefully evaluated using three-dimensional imaging techniques. Implant surgery can be performed under local anaesthesia, or sedation or general anaesthesia may be preferred if necessary. A socket is opened surgically in the area where the implant is planned to be placed, and the implant is placed. After the implant is placed into the jawbone and the necessary healing period has passed, healing caps and abutments to be used in the prosthetic infrastructure are attached, and a prosthesis is made.
What should be considered after implant surgery?
- Do not eat or drink anything until the effect of the local anesthesia wears off, which usually takes 2-3 hours. Do not consume very hot or cold foods on the first day.
- The tampon placed to stop bleeding should be removed after an hour. There may be some bleeding on the first day, so avoid rinsing or spitting to prevent increased bleeding.
- Apply ice to the area where the implant is placed for five minutes at intervals to reduce swelling on the first day.
- Use medications given by the dentist regularly and in the correct dose.
- Rest on the first day, and avoid smoking or minimize it in the first few days.
- During the healing process, attention should be paid to oral hygiene.
- No force should be applied to the part of the implant seen in the mouth with the tongue or anything else.
- Implants should not be opened during surgery.
- The seams will be taken by your cheek surgeon after 7-10 days.
- You can visit your implant surgeon on a regular basis until the implant is healed.
- In some cases, it may be necessary to wait a while for the implant to be made, as a temporary prosthesis can be performed on the same day as the operation on the implant.
- This period varies according to the implanted area, bone quality and advanced surgical requirements such as bone powder applications. (2- 6 ay).
Do patients with osteoporosis receive implants?
In patients with bone melting disorder, as in other patients, jaw bones are carefully evaluated through clinical and radiological examination. In patients with bone melting disorder, it may not melt in the cheek bones. If there is an excessive melting in the jaw bones, as in all patients, it is assessed that it cannot be implanted with advanced surgeons using bone powder or block bones. The most important and definitely not to be overlooked in patients with fragile bone disorders is the use of drugs derived from bisphosphonates or monoclonal antibodies. Patients who use these medicines do not receive implants.
