What are crowns?

Crowns can be used to improve your smile by changing the shape and colour of your existing teeth and also in cases to help strengthen a weakened tooth which may be heavily restored due to caries or trauma.  Crowns are most commonly made from highly strengthen porcelain and also other materials such as Gold or hardened plastic.

Between the stages of preparing a tooth for a crown and placement of the final crown, a temporary crown is cemented onto your tooth to protect it.

For treatment with a crown, your dentist will usually match the existing colour of your teeth with a porcelain tooth. Sometimes people may choose a lighter colour for cosmetic reasons. For back teeth, you may choose a number of materials ranging from porcelain and gold based on the strength, durability and cosmetic goals and needs.

Crowns offer many benefits including rebuilding and strengthening weak or broken teeth. They can also help protect your teeth after root canal treatment and can also help improve your overall oral health.

  • ZIRCONIUM CROWNS:
Zirconium crowns are frequently preferred application to correct functionally problematic teeth and to provide an aesthetic appearance. For zirconium crowns, names such as zirconium teeth and zirconium veneers are also made. It gives a natural effect to the teeth due to its high level of light transmission. It is possible to obtain aesthetic smiles with the zirconium crowns that gives whiteness. Despite the absence of metal in them, they are quite durable and long-lasting. Unlike metal tooth veneer types, purplish discoloration does not occur on the gums after the zirconium crown process.

Zirconium crowns life?

The life of the zircon is affected by the behaviors we have mentioned above and the do's and don'ts. Compliance with the recommendations of the physician will also increase the life of the crown. In this respect, it is not possible to give an exact time about the zirconium teeth life. With careful attention and regular oral care, the crown can be used for 10-30 years. Gum diseases such as gingivitis and periodontitis can reduce this period. In cases where oral, dental and gingival care is not taken care of, the life of the crown may decrease up to 10 years.

General features of zirconium crown teeth:

Thanks to the light transmittance of zirconium crowns, it looks like a natural tooth.
There is no need to cut the tooth in order to veneer the tooth. A light abrasion is sufficient for dental veneer.
Teeth with zirconium crowns are made both in natural tooth color and in a size that is compatible with other teeth.
Since zirconium is a material with high biocompatibility, it does not cause allergic reactions.
Zirconium crowns do not cause discoloration on the gums.

  • METAL-SUPPORTED PORCELAIN

Metal-supported porcelain is a type of dental crown where various metal alloys are used as a base layer under the porcelain to create a durable restoration that is compatible with both the teeth and gums. This type of crown is the most commonly used type of fixed dental prosthesis in nearly all cases where a fixed prosthesis is needed.

The average treatment time for metal-supported porcelain crowns is around 3-4 sessions and 8-7 days for up to three units. As the number of units increases, the preparation time for the teeth will also increase. For example, preparing teeth for three units will take one session, while preparing teeth for ten units will take three sessions. Other stages of treatment will remain the same, resulting in an overall increase of two sessions. The total number of treatment sessions will be six, and the total number of days will be around 7-8.

If root canal therapy or extensive gum treatment is required for the teeth to be restored with dental prostheses, the treatment time may be extended by a few more sessions.
